Hugh and Carolyn Hartsell

Smoky Mountain Flyfishing Guides

After more than 54 years of fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Hugh and Carolyn Hartsell are offering their experience, expertise and services to the public. They have been hosting fly fishers in East Tennessee and the Smokies for Hugh on the South Holston several years now. Hugh has been fly fishing the waters of East Tennessee, North Carolina and many parts of Arkansas and Yellowstone National Park for all of his adult life. He has fished and trained with some of the best tyers and fishermen that live on the Tennessee side of the Smokies. He also trained with the well known fly tyer, A.K. Best.

Hugh has been tying his own flies since he was 14 years old. The knowledge he has gained of the local insects in these streams over the years has been applied to his tying and fishing, with successful results. He has developed many and highly successful fly patterns over the last 21 years that have taken both trout and smallmouth bass measuring well over 22 inches.

Carolyn joined Hugh about 7 years ago in the pursuit of fly fishing and now excels in both fly fishing and fly tying. She is very well acquainted with the many secluded spots of the Smokies that offer great fishing for wild trout. Carolyn took fly casting lessons from Emily Whitlock in Arkansas at a flyfishing convention.  Fly tying lessons were taken from Walter Babb and Byron Begley. Carolyn is also a RN, BSN, CLNC and has her own business of Hartsell & Associates Legal Nurse Consultants. She assists both plaintiff and defense attorneys in developing medical cases, doing authoritative research and in locating medical testifying experts.

Feel free to email them if you have any questions about fishing or to book a trip in East Tennessee, Western North Carolina or the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  You may also call 423-586-6198.
