TVA has now begun the Drawdown of the area lakes. We are now at the time of the year that we consider the fishing to be unsafe for the remaining fish that are left in the Holston river. The water will continue to warm to around 70 degrees and will stay close to that temperature until the air temperatures drop the water temps in the lake. It usually becomes safe to fish again around the last of November. At this time of the year we begin to book more trips to the South Holston and Watauga Rivers. This gives us the choice to fish tailwater rivers or the streams of the GSMNP. We have secured even more good accesses on the Holston River, below Cherokee Dam, where we love to take clients. These sections cover the river from the dam, all the way to Nances Ferry. If you are looking for a great late Summer or Fall fishing destination, just call us at 423-586-6198. Maybe you can hook into one of the big monsters that are waiting there. If you feel like giving it a try, just contact us for a booking date right here.

What a great season! We updated our fly pages with new patterns in several categories and we have had the opportunity to test many of these flies.. Be sure to look at the new patterns that we have placed on our new Wet Flies Page, as well as lots of new selections on the Tailwaters Fly Page. Wet flies and Softhackles were the method that I first learned to fish by, many years ago. It is now making a comeback and I look forward to taking new students out to teach the methods that were so productive in my youth. Be the first to get enrolled in this new class. We still have many people who are trying our Advanced Nymphing class and learning the use of the tandem rigged nymph setup. The Smoky Mountain Blackbird Softhackle is still the most productive fly in the Park. We look to it again this year to lead us in the best fish catches to be seen in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you're thinking of a guided trip this year, be sure to get in touch with us real soon to reserve a date on the stream for one of our special classes. We anticipate a great season this year and we invite you to come and share it with us. To contact us to reserve a day for one of these classes, just click here. Hugh and Carolyn Hartsell |
